SCA News Lower School News

On February 5, Shorecrest hosted its annual International Festival. The Gaffney Green was once again filled with meaningful objects, traditional dress and an array of international flavors. Arranged largely by parent volunteers, booths with food, decor, clothing, flags, stickers, money and more from around the globe represented the diverse cultures of the School's community.

Students from age 3 through grade 12 visited to learn more about cultures from around the world. From trying out chopsticks to learning traditional dances, students tried new experiences.

Participating countries and cultures included: Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czech Republic, El Salvador, Greece, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Nigeria, Palestine, Poland, Puerto Rico, Russia, Scotland, South Africa, Türkiye, Thailand, UK, Ukraine, USA and Vietnam.

The Festival also included tents from 3 Upper School student groups for the first time: Shorecrest's Black Student Union, Global Scholars Initiative (GSI), and Harmony Across Borders.

The International Festival was meticulously planned by volunteer parent Tani Masvidal, part of International Connection at Shorecrest.
