Crafting Cardboard

Middle School News

Shorecrest seventh and eighth graders in STEM Explorations class recently created and competed in riding cardboard boats.

Students were given only duct tape and standard cardboard, and were tasked to create a boat that could fit and float one of their team members across a swimming pool. The students tested their creations in the Speer YMCA 25-yard outdoor competition pool. Over half of the 12 boats floated. Four groups made it at least half way across the pool, and 3 groups crossed the length fully.
