Several Shorecrest students and graduates were featured in St. Pete Opera Company's production of WEST SIDE STORY at the Palladium Theater this summer. Alumni Dom Reatini '11 (Bernardo), Garrett Schulte '13 (Diesel), Peyton Lustig '11 (Velma) as well as current seniors Kyle M (Big Deal), Lauren B (Jet Girl) and Kylie H (Jet Girl) were in the cast. Faculty members Cheryl Lee (Choreographer) and Bill Leavengood (Stage Director) were part of the creative team. Charger mom Lorrie Heyman also helped with props for the show.
WEST SIDE STORY broke all the Palladium's box office records for ticket sales, nearly selling out the 800 seat theatre for all 6 performances.
It was recently announced that the production received 8 nominations for the Theatre Tampa Bay Awards including our own Outstanding Choreography/Fight Direction (Cheryl Lee) and Outstanding Director, Musical (Bill Leavengood).
Special thanks go to Cheryl Lee, who helped convince St. Pete Opera to take a chance on casting our young Shorecrest performers who held their own with a cast of professional opera and musical theatre stars from Tampa Bay and New York!
