Students in Ms. Jeakle's eighth grade marine science class were surprised to learn they were entering art contests this year. Everyone in the class had to submit a drawing, and Ms. Jeakle, along with art teacher Mrs. Williams, would decide which drawings would be sent to NOAA Marine Debris Program’s Annual Art Contest. Students from kindergarten to eighth grade from around the country submitted more than 450 entries with incredible visual messages on what we need to do to be the solution to ocean pollution. 13 winning pieces of art will be featured in their 2019 Marine Debris Calendar. Shorecrest eighth grader Anna J's art was selected to be in the resulting 2019 calendar, which will be available for download later this year. The calendars serve as reminders every day to be responsible stewards of the ocean.
