The tennis Chargers have already had 10 matches scheduled and played 9, with 1 rain out. This year there are four very full boys and girls teams and wonderful interest at the junior varsity level. Shorecrest welcomed a third coach, Tommy Del Zoppo, a Charger parent, to help coaches Thorn and Davis manage the growing program, and several additional schools have been added to make the dual match season competitive and demanding.
Girls Varsity:
The girls varsity team has a 4-1 record so far and opened the season with a convincing win against a school they have not played until recently, Tampa Catholic. The girls lineup includes Melanie F, Bella R, Aly D, Wynn B, Sofia M, Kirsten P, Abby C, Emily F and Lindsey L.
The team had a very close match against a decent Academy of Holy Names team and only managed to squeak by with a clinching win at the number 1 doubles spot. The team then dropped one to St. Stephens, a traditional power house from across the Skyway Bridge, but bounced right back with two strong wins against Admiral Farragut and Canterbury.
Boys Varsity:
The boys varsity team has a 3-1 record so far, and similarly had convincing wins against Tampa Catholic, Admiral Farragut Academy and Canterbury. The boys lost to St. Stephens but learned the hard work that lies ahead in order to elevate the team's competitive level. The boys lineup usually includes Jack L, Luis S, Mathew D, Casey R, Stefan B, Kyle L, Tyler D, Wenhao Yu and Edgar D.

Junior Varsity:
The junior varsity teams opened the season with back to back matches against St. Stephens and Berkeley prep. The last three matches of the season for the JV teams are equally difficult with two against St. Stephens and one against Out of Door Academy. The junior varsity girls lineup includes Taylor R, Lizzie C, Kendall F, Maeve D, Mya P, Victoria D, and Abby C, Emily F, and Lindsey L. The boys junior varsity lineup includes CJ B, Liam C, Leddon Z, Johnny E, Sam H, Jake W, Jonah S, Tate M, Federico Z, Fin M and Scott M. There is also a boys JV developmental squad this year which includes Caelin B, Max C, Janson F, Jack W, Scott M, Josh J, Noah S, Michael M, Carson C, and Cheng X.
Coach Davis said, "I am extremely excited about the level of interest and some of the talent I see coming among JV. The matches were competitive and there is a lot of talent to groom for the future." His goal for this year is to implement his high percentage system of drills and patterns of play so that all of his players are playing from the same playbook. He appreciates the parental support and encouragement.
