

Shorecrest Athletics Welcomes New Softball, Cross Country Coaches

Alexis Galinski, a Class of 2011 alumna, is a former Shorecrest MVP softball player. She returned to Shorecrest this year to teach sixth grade math and to coach the Varsity softball team.
While at Shorecrest, she was the starting pitcher for two years before moving back to shortstop where she earned her title of MVP for four consecutive years. Upon graduating from Shorecrest in 2011, Alexis attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, where she went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business and walk on to the Division I softball team. There, she had the opportunity to play against big Division I softball teams, such as Tennessee, Georgia, Auburn, and South Carolina.
Alexis graduated from Furman in three years, completing her program in 2014, and went on to be the Head Coach of the 2015 Shorecrest Varsity softball team and Assistant Coach of the 2016 Shorecrest Varsity softball team. She earned an MBA and a master’s degree in Teaching Middle School Mathematics in 2017, and will be finishing a master’s degree in Psychology this summer.
Sam Secord, Cross CountryThe Shorecrest Athletic program is pleased to welcome Sam Secord to the Charger coaching staff. Coach Secord will be the Head Coach of the Cross Country team.
A 2004 graduate of St. Petersburg Catholic High School, Coach Secord was a nationally ranked athlete during his high school years, competing in the 2004 Nike Indoor National Championships. He was the #2 runner on the 2003 2A state runner-up cross country team with a P.R. of 16:19 and won the 2004 2A State Championship in the 800M. He attended Auburn University on an athletic scholarship, competing on the track team from 2004-2007. He earned a degree in Business Administration in 2008.
Secord was the Head Cross Country and Track & Field coach at St. Petersburg Catholic from 2010-2016. During his tenure the team boasted multiple district champions, regional and state qualifiers and the 2013 1A 800M State Champion.
According to Coach Secord, “I am excited to meet the families here at Shorecrest and help continue the past success of the Cross Country program. I have always admired the way in which the Shorecrest student-athletes and coaches have represented the school and I look forward to being a part of the culture here.”
Coach Secord and his wife Shannon live in the Old Northeast with their three children Kaylen (4), Kennedy (2), and Reid (11 months). When he’s not coaching he’s busy with his business, Bayside Marine Management.
