JV Volleyball Shows Growth, Teamwork

Athletics

Tuesday, October 10 the JV Chargers Volleyball faced up against Northside Christian (NSC), a team they'd played earlier in the season. After a couple of tough losses, they were determined to get their first away match win. According to Coach Joe, "We would also be trying to get this win a little shorthanded – missing three players due to illnesses. The match started off in NSC’s favor and we were down by 5 points early in the first set. However, once our nerves settled we were able to take care of the things we could control, most specifically our serving." The team pulled together and eventually took the first set.

He continues, "The second set unfortunately started off the same, however this time we were trailing by as many as 12 points. Again, after playing more relaxed, with more urgency, and as a team we clawed our way back and eventually had a 24-18 lead until NSC fought back to 24-23. Even though NSC was able to close the gap, we managed to pass well and score the final point in the set – taking the match 2 sets to 0 and improving to 6-5."

Thursday, October 12 the Chargers played Admiral Farragut away, whom they'd also played earlier in the season. "It was a good test to see how far we have come, and to see how much they had improved as well," says Coach Joe. "The match went to 3 sets, and we were able to win 2 sets to 1 by playing as a team and getting back to the basics that have gotten us through the season."
Overall, the team finished the season with a winning record of 7-5, with only one home loss, and won both matches that went to a deciding set.

"Special thanks to all the parents that supported the team, volleyball program, and school during our season and of course to all the players I had the honor and pleasure to coach this season," says Coach Joe. "GO CHARGERS!"
