Students Judge Ocean 180 Video Challenge

Middle School News

Eighth graders at Shorecrest have been given a unique opportunity to serve as student judges for the 2018 Ocean 180 Video Challenge. The Video Challenge encourages ocean scientists to share their discoveries and excitement for research with teachers, students, and the public in a video that lasts no longer than 180 seconds. The video needed to summarize important findings and highlight the relevance, meaning, and implications of their research to persons outside their discipline.

Round 1 of judging was completed by a panel of scientists and communication experts. The top ten videos moved on to Round 2 judging. The final winners will be selected by a diverse group of potential-future ocean scientists - sixth to eighth grade students from classrooms around the world, including Shorecrest eighth graders.

The following link will provide you with a list of the final ten videos, but please DO NOT watch the videos with an eighth grade student until AFTER they have voted. We will be voting in class over the next couple of weeks: http://www.ocean180.org/2018-finals/2018-challenge.html.
