Looking to rebound from a tough loss at IRC last week, the JV Volleyball Chargers knew it would be a demanding week as they would be playing three matches in a row due to the hurricane. On Tuesday they took on Calvary Christian at Calvary. Calvary was able to jump to a very early lead in the first set, which the Chargers were unable to surmount, and they ran away with the first set.
Instead of rolling over and giving up, SPS played with more energy and fight in the second set and had an early lead due to aggressive serving by Freshman setter, Sofia M. Calvary never let up and eventually took the lead second set, and match behind some tough hitting, serving, and our errors.
The Chargers knew they had little turnaround (less than 24 hours) to prepare before the next match and they would have to regroup quickly.

On Wednesday, SPS hosted Tampa Prep and hoped to defend an undefeated home record and get back to winning. The first set started off a little slowly with some errors and adjusting to the slower speed of Tampa Prep’s game. However, once their nerves settled the Chargers pulled away behind aggressive net play by eighth grade middles Ashli M. and Nikki A, as well as great serving by eighth grader right side, Emma S.
The second set was even more impressive than the first – Tampa Prep never getting closer than 8 points and the Chargers maintaining a demanding lead throughout. The second set showcased a great team effort by all of the JV players, and was highlighted by great serving from Freshman Outsides Kirstin P. and Dorothy C., as well as great passing by Sophomore DS, Miracle B.
With a win over Tampa Prep (25-16, 25-7) the JV Volleyball Chargers successfully defended an undefeated home record.
