Athletics

The Chargers Swim & Dive teams headed in to the 1A-8 District Meet with a high level of confidence and were able to win our 14^thDistrict Championship in a row for both the boys and girls teams!

Leading the girls team to victory were the members of the 200 Medley Relay (Sarah L., Ainsley B., Taylor E. and Emery C.) and the 400 Free Relay (Taylor E., Reagan Q., Emery C., and Sarah L.) with wins in both events. Individually and automatically qualifying to the 1A-3 Region Meet were Sarah L. (2^nd – 200 Free, 1^st – 500 Free); Taylor E. (1^st – 200 IM, 2^nd – 100 Fly) and Sophie E. (1^st – Diving). Joining them by making the Region meet with top 16 times were Claire E., Devyn K., Sarah M., Stella P. and Mariyah S.

On the boys side leading the way were the members of the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay (Misha M., Pablo C., Caleb K. and Joseph B.) with 2^nd place finishes in both. Automatically qualifying with top 2 finishes were: Caleb K. (2^nd – 200 IM); Dominic H. (1^st – Diving); and Joseph B. (2^nd – 500 Free). Rounding out the Region team were qualifiers Chase A., PJ F., Carlos G., Will H. and David S.Congratulations to both the girls and boys teams on their accomplishments!

The Region 1A-3 Meet was held last Saturday in Sarasota in rainy and cool conditions. Despite the weather, Shorecrest swimmers fought the good fight and qualified quite a few to the State Meet.

Leading the way with our only automatic bid was Caleb K. with a first place finish in the 200 IM! The boys 200 Medley Relay (Misha M., Pablo C., Caleb K. and Joseph B.) finished third as did the 400 Free with the same personnel. Both of these relays advanced to the state meet. Joseph B. had a difficult 500 Free swim, but was fast enough to qualify individually as well as in the relays.

Individually for the girls team, Sarah L. qualified in both of her events (200 Free and 500 Free) earning her a bid as "Tampa Bay Times" Hometeam Hotshot of the Week. Taylor E. also qualified in her events (200 IM and 100 Fly). The girls 400 Free Relay (Taylor E., Reagan Q., Emery C. and Sarah L.) swam an outstanding best time to finish third and earn a trip to Stuart this upcoming Saturday. Carlos G. and Claire E. have been named alternates and will travel with the team.

Our divers, Sophie E. and Dominic H., had their meet on Friday and automatically qualified with their 2^nd place finishes.
