Exploring Sewing, Notions and Fabric

Experiential School News

Students in The Experiential School's Alpha class taught by Ms. Ginger and Ms. Lauren recently had a field experience at Sew Pinellas, an engaging and educational sewing studio in St. Petersburg.

Upon arrival, the young Chargers were welcomed into the shop's bright and cozy space. The children were completely captivated as they toured the store and explored shelves stacked high with colorful bolts of fabric, bins of shiny buttons, and spools of vibrant trims. The textures, patterns, and colors were a fantastic sensory experience that brought their classroom lessons on patterns and materials to life.

The shop owner was incredibly generous with her time, offering the class a gentle, hands-on tutorial. The main event was watching how to sew little triangles used to make a beautiful bunting. The children even had the chance to practice some simple, guided stitches. This activity was a perfect introduction to the idea of construction and craft.

Each child was invited to choose a yard of fabric to bring back to the classroom. These colorful selections will form the basis of a special upcoming project.
