JK Explores Marine Life in Middle School

Experiential School News Faculty Spotlight

In Shorecrest’s Experiential School, learning often flows beyond classroom walls. Recently Junior Kindergarten students in Dr. Q’s class, who have been studying water and the creatures that live in it, took a special trip to a Middle School science room.

Seventh Grade Teacher, Ms. LoDico, invited the young learners to see her class’s collection of shells, skeletons, and a small aquaponics tank with freshwater shrimp. The JK students were fascinated by the tiny shrimp and loved seeing real examples of the marine life they’d been talking about in class.

Dr. Q shared afterward, “The children absolutely loved it, and I am certain that our exploration of water and ocean creatures will continue to evolve as a result.”

Seventh graders were able to share a variety of preserved specimens with Mrs. Markunas' JK class. They explored coral skeletons, sponges, fungi, plant samples and more. It was a fun and engaging hands-on experience for everyone!

Shorecrest teachers and students connect across divisions to share knowledge, wonder and the joy of discovery.
