Head of School Letter: Community, Kindness and the Joy of the Season

Head of School Letter

As the end of the calendar year nears and the holiday season is upon us, I hope you are able to celebrate meaningful traditions and rituals with family and friends. While the past week has held moments of difficulty across the wider world, the spirit of connection and kindness here at Shorecrest remains a powerful force within our community.

Spending time with loved ones is my favorite part of this season. For me this is a chance to rest, reflect and create cherished moments with friends and family. It is a time of year when we pause to recognize the gifts that others bring into our lives. There is a special spirit of appreciation for our community, which reminds us of the generosity, gratitude and connections that make life truly meaningful.

This community spirit was beautifully showcased recently in our Winter Jubilee Music Concert, where talented student musicians and singers delivered truly wonderful performances. Their hard work and dedication filled the Janet Root Theatre with the uplifting beauty of music, creating a memorable evening for all who attended. We are so proud of our students for sharing their gifts with our community.

Another very memorable demonstration of our shared community spirit is the Holiday Gift Drive, a wonderful SCA-sponsored, schoolwide event and a long-standing Shorecrest tradition. For more than 30 years the Shorecrest community has partnered with Hero to a Child to make the holidays a little brighter for local children in foster care. Class by class, our students make their way to Crisp Gym and fill the floor with gifts for others. SCA volunteers then carefully organize the presents before they are brought outdoors for Guardian ad Litem volunteers, who will deliver them to their many recipients. Many thanks to all the volunteers who led and participated in this year's drive—it truly embodies the heart of our community.

Looking ahead to Winter Break, my deepest wish is for a healthy, joyful, and peaceful holiday season for all members of the Shorecrest community. Happy New Year, and I eagerly look forward to seeing you all when we return in 2026!

All the best,

Nancy
