Head of School Letter: Final Thoughts
This has been a week of transition, traditions and rituals. At last Saturday's Commencement, student speakers talked about the deep connections they have developed with their peers and teachers. They reflected on the many successes of their class and how meaningful their Shorecrest experience has been. Almost a quarter of this year's seniors are “Lifers,” having spent their entire educational journey on Shorecrest’s campus. We are so proud of our graduates and excited to see what they will accomplish next, as Shorecrest alumni!
During this week’s Eighth Grade Moving Up Breakfast, students spoke about what they learned throughout their Middle School experience and how they have developed and matured during those four years. Then the eighth graders walked to Landy Hall, where they were welcomed into the Upper School with their class t-shirts and yearbooks. Head of Lower School, Dr. Bianco, spoke at the Fourth Grade Moving Up Ceremony to encourage the fourth graders to have fun exploring and discovering new things as they entered Middle School. A wonderful video presented interviews with fourth grade students and highlights of the year. JK Bridge Day took place at the corner of the campus in the Lower School Outdoor Classroom & Garden. It was a celebration of the Junior Kindergarteners’ growth and learning throughout the year. With misty-eyed parents and grandparents watching, each JK student crossed over the wooden bridge and was greeted by the Kindergarten teachers, welcoming them into Lower School for the next step of their educational journey.
Each of these milestone events - and all the accomplishments and growth that happen in between - are worthy of reflection and celebration. As a college preparatory school, we look to our seniors each year to truly embody the value of a Shorecrest education. I am so very proud of our senior class and excited for what comes next for them. We are proud that their Shorecrest education helped provide students with an incredible variety and choice of college options from amongst many highly selective colleges and universities. Along the way, they have earned numerous accolades and over $7.5 million of scholarship funds, which speaks to the talent of this impressive Shorecrest Class of 2026. We will miss their leadership and wish them well on their next chapter of their educational journey.
As we head into these final days of school, I want to take a moment to look back and reflect on what a good year it has been. From the many successful community events to the smaller moments of connection, Shorecrest students have excelled, personally and academically, as they have pursued creative achievements, physical well-being and contributed to the betterment of our society. We have a very special community, where each child is known, valued, challenged and supported. As I said at Saturday’s Commencement, “We have so much to celebrate.”
My best wishes for a wonderful summer.
All the best,
Nancy
