Shorecrest Community

Just as our children form lifelong friendships with their peers at Shorecrest, so do many of us as parents and teachers. Friendly acquaintances from socials, extracurricular activities, and school events evolve into deep, lasting friendships and a strong support system. That support may even come anonymously from the Shorecrest community as a whole during times of need.
S.P.A., the Shorecrest Parent Association, operates a special “Shorecrest Cares” committee offering food, transportation and other kinds of support when members of our community experience a tragedy, hardship or loss. Individual parents and teachers often reach out to students, parents and staff members when there is a special concern.
At times, members of our community choose to maintain privacy when facing a challenge. Others choose to be more public with their issues and openly accept the caring support offered by individuals and groups. While there may not be a perfect way to manage hardship and loss, it is important to know that the school community is filled with people who are willing to help in whatever way is needed.
We send our children to school so they can receive an education that prepares them for college and for life. Character education extends outside of the classroom when children see adults in the community demonstrate compassion and generosity.
Know that the meals, rides, childcare, willingness to listen, and the shoulders to cry on are available. S.P.A. leadership is listed on the website, and their contact information is listed in the school directory. As we move into this new school year, I encourage our families to let the school and S.P.A. leaders know when you or a friend can use a helping hand. We are more than just a school. We are a community who cares and are stronger because of the good works shared by individuals and groups.
While I trust that our community will gather in celebration and joy more often than in sorrowful support, I appreciate the special efforts of all members of the community who reach out to lend a helping hand wherever and whenever it is needed.
