Shorecrest School

Best Wishes for a Joyful Holiday Season!

Head of School Letter

This is the time of year for celebration. The holiday season brings together families, food, gifts and gatherings. Many of us look forward to traditions and welcome the chance to pause in our daily lives. We appreciate, especially this year, the rituals that make this time of year special.

A very memorable Shorecrest tradition is the Holiday Gift Drive, a SCA-sponsored community-wide event. For over 20 years, the Shorecrest community has partnered with the Guardian ad Litem Foundation to make the holidays a little brighter for local children in foster care. Class by class, Chargers make their way to Crisp Gym and fill the floor with gifts for others. SCA volunteers organize the presents and bring them outdoors to the guardians, who will deliver them to their many recipients. Many thanks to the volunteers who led and participated in the Holiday Gift Drive, which is a highlight of the school year.

As we embark on this holiday season, it is valuable to reflect on this past year and consider ways to combat the hectic pace of daily life. Whether it is time to appreciate nature, nurture relationships with others or devote time to oneself, all are ways to prevent this time of year from becoming overwhelming.

This year’s season of celebration seems especially significant, as we look towards the future with hope. Miracles are a part of many faith traditions that are recognized in December and there are miracles happening all around us. The miraculous beauty of a community can be breathtaking and should not be taken for granted.

As 2021 draws to a close, I wish everyone a happy, healthy and restful holiday, with best wishes for the New Year.

All the best,
Nancy
