SAISA Keelboat qualifier & PCISA National Girl’s Invitational

Athletics

On October 3 and 4, four member of the Chargers Varsity Sailing Team represented Shorecrest in the 2nd annual SAISA Keelboat qualifier Regatta.

The team of Josh D., helmsman; Hannah S., tactician and mainsheet/spinnaker trim; Kyle D., foredeck and jib trim; and Elizabeth S., mast controls, won the regatta with 4 first place finishes!

The team moves on to represent Shorecrest in the National Keelboat Championships to be held at Saint Petersburg Yacht Club on November 12-22, 2015.

On October 15-18, 6 members of the Shorecrest Sailing Team traveled to San Diego, CA, to participate in the PCISA National Girl’s Invitational Regatta.  This is one of two girls high school regattas during the year and is akin to a girl’s National High School Championship. Shorecrest finished 6th of 18 teams from all over the US!

Hannah S. and Peninah B. sailed in the A division for Shorecrest and finished 2nd in the division, one point out of first place! Participating were skippers Hannah S and Elizabeth S. with crews Peninah B., Sage F., Andrea R., and Victoria V. The girls were fortunate to have as coach Allison Shane, a former All MAISA Crew and All American Academic Crew recently graduated for St. Mary’s College in Maryland.

The team sails this weekend at Jensen Beach in the SAISA South Points #2 regatta.

In addition to the successes of our current Shorecrest team, our Charger Alumni are also doing extremely well in college sailing. This past weekend at a major college regatta at Dartmouth, Kathyrn Booker '15 (Stanford) crewed on the first place boat which tied with skipper Patrick Shanahan '15 (Brown) followed closely in third Place by skipper Nic Baird '15 (Yale). It is rare for freshman to represent their schools at this regatta, let alone perform so well!
