Reading the Weather, Reading the World

Shorecrest fourth graders recently chatted over Zoom with Greg Dee, the weekday morning meteorologist on ABC Action News.
The Chargers are about to wrap up their latest reading unit entitled, "Reading the Weather. Reading the World," which challenges students to apply new reading skills when tackling nonfiction texts specifically focused on extreme weather. Students are in book clubs grouped by topic: Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Thunderstorms/Lightning, and Volcanoes. They researched their topic and worked together in teams to create a final presentation to teach their classmates what they learned.
The chat with meteorologist Greg Dee enhanced all of their learning. He gave a presentation about Extreme Weather and answered a lot of the eager Chargers’ questions at the end. Thank you!
