Head of School Letter: A Busy Week!

Head of School Letter

On Tuesday, Shorecrest students were delighted to attend the 4th International Festival hosted by the International Connection group and Shorecrest parent volunteers which highlighted 49 countries. The festival brought together a large group of Shorecrest parent and grandparent volunteers. The goal was to have fun and experience all sorts of different aspects from each other's cultures. There were artifacts and souvenirs, traditional outfits and so, so much wonderful food! There was music as well, with songs and dances shared from numerous cultures. The International Festival is a favorite day for so many Chargers and we are delighted to continue this meaningful Shorecrest tradition.

Tuesday also saw the Varsity Girls Soccer team compete in the State Semifinal game against St. John's Country Day School. With a big-screen viewing of the game in the Janet Root Theatre, students cheered on their classmates as the clock ticked down and the Chargers held a 1-0 lead. With four minutes to go in the game, St. John’s was awarded a Penalty Kick for a foul in the box. The crowd waited breathlessly as goalie Sonoma Kasica ‘24 swatted away the shot so that Shorecrest held on to win the game. Friday morning at 10am they fought hard against Lakeland Christian, ending as the FHSAA 2A Girls Soccer State Runner-Up.

Parent-Teacher Student Conferences took place all day on Wednesday. The campus was buzzing with lots of conversations and opportunities for parents and faculty members to exchange insights, share observations, and collectively address the individual needs of each student. We hope that Conference Day was productive and informative, and strengthened the Family-School partnership.

And to finish off this week, Shorecrest’s beloved tradition, Family Movie Night, is back! For the third year in a row, we invite all members of the Shorecrest community to bring a blanket or lawn chairs and enjoy a movie – this year in the warm and dry confines of Crisp Gym, previously under the stars on the Gaffney Green. The event begins at 6pm with this year’s feature presentation "Moana." There will be activities and snacks for all ages, with food trucks available to purchase dinner and dessert. All are welcome to this free event. Family Movie Night is a wonderful community experience and I hope that all of you will choose to attend. I look forward to seeing you there.

All the best,

Nancy
