Two Chargers Head to the 2025 Maccabiah Games
Two Shorecrest Chargers student-athletes will be competing in this year’s upcoming World Maccabiah Games in Israel, which will be held July 1-22, 2025.
Ava Gurievsky '27 was selected to join the USA U18 girl’s volleyball team. She is most looking forward to the unique experience of traveling overseas to compete internationally, she said. Last year she also joined the U16 team in Buenos Aires. That crew came home with a gold metal. “I anticipate this to be a similar experience in terms of having a few days to train as a team before competition,” Gurievsky said. She is doing everything in her power to come back with another top victory, she said.
“It's very rewarding to be selected for this team, I have spent the last few years of my life completely dedicated to this sport, even skipping most family vacations just so I could get in extra work, so to begin to see my dedication pay off is fulfilling.”
Michael Mizrahi ‘27 will be competing for the USA U16 swimming team. He is going to be participating in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly, 200 IM and 400 free. He will also join relays that will be determined closer to the race date. Mizrahi also swam in Bueno Aires last year.
“I am most excited for reuniting with my friends from the previous Maccabi Games in Argentina,” said Mizrahi. “I am honored to have been selected to represent the USA for swim and am excited to meet other countries' athletes. I remember last year we were standing next to the Brazil team and we were able to joke and laugh without even speaking the same language.”
