Chargers Earn Medals at Pan American Maccabi Games

The 15th Pan American Maccabi Games were held in Buenos Aires, Argentina on December 27, 2023 - January 5, 2024. Two Shorecrest Chargers competed and returned with medals!

Ava Gurievsky '27 played volleyball on Maccabi USA's U16 Girls’ volleyball team. She was one of 11 athletes selected to the team. After only two practices together before competing, Maccabi USA swept its way to gold on the final day of competition. 

On the day of the big win Ava said, “Today was really great. I am so proud to be with this team. Everyone on the team is so amazing and overall worked really well together. I want to shout out to our coach for bringing us together as a team.”

Michael Mizrahi '27 was one of 16 swimmers on Team Maccabi USA. He swam in a few U16 events and won bronze medals for the 50x4 freestyle relay and the 200 meter backstroke at just 14 years old. 

About the Games:
Established in 1948, Maccabi USA sponsors the USA Team to the World Maccabiah Games, an international Jewish and Israeli multi-sport event held quadrennially, and first held in 1932. Dubbed the “Jewish Olympics,” the Maccabiah is the second largest sporting event in the world.
