Students Create Civil Society Organizations
Shorecrest Upper School students in Kayla Brazee's AP Comparative Government & Politics class recently worked in small groups to create their own civil society organizations. After learning about the important role of civil societies within democratic institutions, students were asked to select a topic that they found meaningful to become the focus of their organizations. From there they were asked to create their civil societies from the ground up, including a name, slogan, symbol, and a seven-point plan to implement their organization's goals. After planning they presented their research to a mock Civil Society Unit of the United Nations. They did a wonderful job!
This year's civil societies and their respective slogans included:
The Florida Education Freedom Association (FEFA)
The Foundation of Education Lies on Preservation
Group Against Gambling in Sports (GAGS)
Champion the Game, Not Gambling
LNG Conservation
Let's Not Gloat About Gas
Southern Truth and Memory Collective
Amending the Present to Make Up for the Past. Using Justice to Build Up the Future.
