Chargers Take on National Math Challenge

Upper School News

In November 2025, thirteen Shorecrest Upper School students took part in the MAA American Mathematics Competitions 10 and 12 exams. Students from any Honors-level math class were able to voluntarily take a 75-minute exam. The tests consist of 25 very difficult multiple choice questions (see sample below). National top scorers can then compete in a more difficult exam, the AIME.

Shorecrest’s top scorers were:

AMC 10
1. Danny Keane '28
2. Noah Eichenbaum '28
3. Alex Jank '28 and Antony Krastev '28

AMC 12
1. Carter McCleish '27
2. Charlie Cowan '26
3. Jasper Hallock-Wishner '26

Sample question:
Three real numbers are chosen independently and uniformly at random between 0 and 1. What is the probability that the greatest of these three numbers is greater than 2 times each of the other two numbers? (In other words, if the chosen numbers are a ≥ b ≥ c, then a > 2b.)
