Shorecrest School

Poetry in the Park [Photos, Video]

Experiential School News

After weeks of studying and writing poetry, Shorecrest's young bards had the opportunity to show off their poetic voices. Audiences flocked on beach chairs and blankets to enjoy a wonderful morning of listening to lyrical voices of young Chargers.

Why do we have a tradition of asking young children to recite poetry on stage? During early childhood, children play with the sounds of language and the intonations of their voice, they learn to convey emotions and to communicate. The process of learning to recite poetry builds emergent literacy skills and a love of language.
