Map Reading in JK

Students in Junior Kindergarten have been exploring maps and how they work. The young Chargers were prompted with a map of the Shorecrest campus in St. Petersburg, Florida. Many students quickly and excitedly found familiar places on the map, such as The Experiential School Building, the playgrounds, and the track. On one end of the campus map some children noticed a body of water. They set off to locate the pond behind the baseball field.

Map reading remains an important tool for building spatial reasoning skills and helping children make sense of the world around them. Focusing on a map of campus reminds students they are part of the special Shorecrest community.
