8th Grade Geometry students started off the year with a challenge: to build the tallest free-standing structure possible with the supplies they were given.
Each group had popsicle sticks, straws, index cards, cups, a plate, construction paper, paper clips, and tape. They had to work together to think through issues such as balance, weight, and physics. They discovered that each group came to several similar conclusions, such as using cups for the base, but that they also had unique and creative approaches as well.
