Swim and Dive Season Underway

Athletics

After two weeks of practice, Chargers Swim and Dive were ready to open with a pre-season invitational meet hosted by Northeast High School. No scoring took place, but the swimmers and divers had a chance to race and post some times before the regular season began. Both middle school and varsity participated against Northeast, Pinellas Park, Largo, St. Pete Catholic and Dixie. Everyone enjoyed the competition and got the jitters of a new season out of the way!

August 27th was the season opener against Canterbury, and Shorecrest prevailed.  Despite swimming off events and still figuring out relays, the boys score was 76 for Canterbury and 213 for Shorecrest and the girls score was 209 for the Chargers and 88 for Canterbury. The boys were able to win every event with Felix S., Luigi P., Mark M. , Jake A., Corey C., Pablo C., Paul R. winning at least one event each and participating on the winning relays. Joshua J. and Oliver H. were 1st and 2nd respectively in diving.

On the ladies side the Chargers won every event as well. Taking first in at least one event each were Monica C., Taylor Anne N., Taylor E., Courtney C., Meredith L.,  Athina Z., with the divers  Sophie E. and Campbell S. going 1st and 2nd respectively.

Unfortunately, the next meet against Seminole and St. Pete was cancelled due to lightning.

Coming up is the first meet for the Chargers Middle School squad as they compete in the Middle Division Relay meet hosted by Berkeley Prep on Thursday. Friday, the divers compete in the Total Team Wares Relay Meet at Northeast High and Saturday is the swimming portion at North Shore Pool.
