Experiential School News

We’re off to a great beginning to the new school year
After a successful first drop off, goodbyes and only a few short-lived tears, the Alpha and JK students spent the morning happily playing, exploring their learning spaces, meeting classroom pets and making new friends. Thanks to the positive participation of our families in Listening Conferences, and the children’s play-filled classroom visit during Alpha and JK Orientation, the students already seem comfortable with their teachers and the Experiential School environments, all of which helped set the stage for a smooth transition from home-to-school.

In Monday’s email, I will share advice on how active play enhances self-esteem and tips to encourage your child to communicate with you about their day. Read the weekly, online information from school to find out more details about what has occurred as well as to be aware of upcoming events. Look for photos capturing the students’ activities in the teachers’ PowerSchool pages that will be posted on Monday evening and in the Friday e-newsletter, Ebytes.

Full Day Dismissal Reminders
Thanks to all our parents for their patience. It takes a few days to make carline flow smoothly. Parents and guardians can improve the efficiency of dismissal by adhering to the following guidelines:
  • Place the car tag in the driver’s side window
  • Stay in your car and let the Shorecrest faculty buckle your child into their car seat
  • Enter the right lane if you are picking up an Experiential student only
  • Enter the left lane if you are picking up an Experiential School student and a Lower School sibling
Back to School Night
On Tuesday, August 22, parents meet at 7pm in Janet Root Theatre for Opening Remarks. Afterward, Alpha parents will proceed to the Exploratorium of the Alpha Building and Junior Kindergarten parents will walk over to their child’s classroom to listen to curriculum presentations by the teachers. Please attend to find out more about experiential learning, responsive classroom, the project approach, the outdoor classroom, exploring, and student-centered investigations.

Morning carline volunteers make a difference
Consider starting your day by making sure children are welcomed to school and safely walked to and into the hand of a safety patrol. Working together, parent volunteers, school faculty, and administrators arrive early to open car doors, unbuckle students from their car seats, and walk them to the safety patrols. With the help of parent volunteers, carline will run more smoothly and safely. Please let me know if you can volunteer in the morning between 7:35 and 7:50am.

Ask
Please contact me or Nikki Kemp by email or phone to ask any questions you might have or to share concerns. We are here to support our students and families and welcome the opportunity to get to know you better and to offer assistance. Teachers can and will respond to emails after school since their attention is engaged with their students but Nikki or I can be reached throughout the school day.

Let this first day be the start of a terrific school year filled with experiences that follow students’ wonderings and interests!

Sincerely,
Dr. Sherri Danyali
