Mystery Skype is a global guessing game that gets students learning about geography, culture, and the similarities and differences of how children live all over the world. Shorecrest fourth graders will be partnering up with a class somewhere in the world for the Global Read Aloud, and students will try to figure out where the class is located by asking ‘yes or no’ questions.

As a practice run, students had a Mystery Skype across the hall this week to discover where Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Boarman were born. (Is it somewhere the United States? Were you born west of the Mississippi River? etc...) Each student is assigned a job such as Think Tank, Data Entry, Questioner, Runner, or Photographer. They use dry-erase maps to narrow down the possibilities. The competition of trying to be the first class to figure out the answer really excites the young Chargers.
Mystery Skype is an experiential way to engage students when learning about the world. While having fun they are also using map skills, technology, teamwork, and analytical thinking.
