Seventh grade English students had the privilege of a virtual visit with Los Angeles Screenwriter and Producer David Loughery. Students are writing scripts for their stop-motion animation movies and had the opportunity to ask Loughery for advice on enhancing their scripts, writing and revising. Loughery has consistently written and sold his screenplays and other written works to producers for over three decades. Some major titles include "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier," "Tom and Huck," and "Tarzan."
Students gained a lot from the discussion. Here are some takeaways from them:
"An author's worst nightmare is making the audience bored."
Another student said, "Usually, when you are more passionate about what you are writing, it will show in your script."
The part that Mrs. Brill loved was that Loughery pointed out that writing should be fun and that revising is essential: "Be willing to change because there's always room for improvement."

Hearing from a writer who has worked in the business for thirty years has inspired the students to add more interest and action into their scripts. "A movie should be visual," Loughery reminded them, and now they are prepping their scripts to be ready for filming.
The most important part they learned? "Have fun!"
Thank you Mr. Loughery for spending your time with our students and answering all of their questions. Check future issues of Ebytes to watch finalized original videos created by the seventh graders.
