Over the past few weeks, Middle School Spanish students have enjoyed engaging in a variety of activities to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. They were asked to choose an activity that would be personally enjoyable and fulfilling to them. Students were able to showcase their creativity with this assignment, and they produced excellent projects. Some examples of their work include: cooking a traditional meal from a Spanish-speaking country, making a typical Mexican craft, learning a traditional Spanish song and performing it, taking a virtual tour of museums in the Spanish speaking world, and recreating famous artwork.
Some students took their projects a step further and participated in the 2020 Florida Hispanic Heritage Month Contest with the theme "Celebrating Untold Stories and Contributions of Hispanic Americans in Florida."
Some examples of their work are pictured below: a recreation of Frida Kahlo's Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird by Luc H., a folklórico skirt sewn by hand by Brecken P., and an Ojo de Dios by Emily M.
