Head of School Letter: Reflection & Gratitude
From August to now, our campus has been alive with the energy, creativity and purpose that make Shorecrest such a remarkable place for children to learn and grow. As we head into Thanksgiving Break, I find myself reflecting on the immense gratitude I have for this community.
I am deeply grateful for our students. Being surrounded by the positivity, potential and joy of the students on our campus every day is such a gift. JK students imagine the tree-lined athletic fields becoming an "Enchanted Forest," and fourth graders confidently take on a brand new grade level performance. Middle Schoolers become role models for their younger peers, and award-winning student journalists share stories that showcase the Shorecrest student experience. Shorecrest Chargers athletes show grit and teamwork, and our performers learn new genres - including Elvis songs and Hitchcock stories! Our students teach me something new every day.
I am deeply grateful for our faculty and staff. From learning new tech tools, new content areas, or new approaches, our teachers model a culture of continued growth and lifelong learning, delivering on the Shorecrest Mission every day. Long-time colleagues stretch themselves and take on new challenges and new roles at the School. Our facilities team works tirelessly to keep the campus beautiful and safe for us all, and our behind-the-scenes folks make so many of the moving parts of running a school seem effortless.
I am deeply grateful for our families. Families make an intentional choice to send their children to Shorecrest, and I am grateful for the trust and responsibility that decision implies. Shorecrest families provide thousands of volunteer hours, whether through individual classroom activities, community-wide SCA events, or through the strategic leadership of the Board of Trustees. I am grateful to our community of donors who further invest in the School through the Shorecrest Fund, enhancing the experience for each and every student.
As we pause for rest and gratitude next week, I want to thank you - our families, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends - for the partnership that makes Shorecrest so special. I am deeply proud of what we have accomplished together so far this school year, and I look forward to the meaningful work and joyful moments still ahead.
Wishing you and your loved ones a peaceful and restorative Thanksgiving.
All the best,
Nancy
