USF St Pete MLK Awards Honor Six Shorecrest Students
Every year students throughout Pinellas County are honored by USF St. Pete for their commitment and dedication to community service, volunteerism, and civil rights, as well as perseverance in overcoming challenges at the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Banquet.
At the 2026 7th Annual Banquet, six Shorecrest Upper School students were recipients of Martin Luther King Jr Awards. They were honored for:
- Exhibiting extraordinary commitment and dedication to community service, volunteerism, and/or civil rights
- Exhibiting leadership that has significantly impacted their community
- Perseverance to overcome challenges, either at school or personally
Courtney Brinson '26 was awarded for her exceptional leadership, courage, and commitment to social justice. She took the initiative to facilitate a peer-led discussion for Black students focused on the experience of being a Black student at a predominantly white institution. By intentionally creating a confidential, culturally affirming space grounded in restorative principles, Courtney fostered validation, unity, and psychological safety. Her leadership strengthened the Black student community on campus and empowered students to find their voice, reflecting the values of justice, inclusion, and collective care we honor today.
Courtney was asked to deliver an address at the banquet as a High School Honoree Spotlight.
Simi Damani '26 was honored for her dedication to service, leadership, and community impact. Beyond her academic excellence, she has helped build programs that meet real community needs, including playing a key role in establishing the Peer Tutoring Program and serving as one of its most trusted and effective tutors. As a Student Ambassador, DECA founding member, and President of Teens Who Care, Simran leads with patience, integrity, and purpose—raising support for local organizations and bringing others into the work of service. Her commitment reflects the values of leadership, generosity, and collective responsibility we celebrate today.
Simi was also recently named to St. Pete Life's "Women you Need to Know" list.
Anastasia Davis '26 was recognized for her sustained commitment to advocacy, inclusion, and community building. Since the age of twelve, she has actively participated in civic action and community events uplifting underrepresented voices. On campus, Anastasia has been a leader across multiple cultural organizations, co-authoring the school’s Land Acknowledgement and co-founding Harmony Across Borders, a multicultural club dedicated to uniting affinity groups through learning and dialogue. Her leadership reflects a deep dedication to justice, understanding, and collective action—values central to Dr. King’s legacy.
Decedric Dillard '26 received an award for his dedication, character, and commitment to both his community and his teammates. Beyond his achievements in Shorecrest Chargers athletics — including four years on the football team, three state championships, and participation in track and field — he has contributed to community programs like the Urban Youth Empowerment Program, the Mt. Zion Work Readiness Program, and his aunt’s foundation honoring her late son. Decedric shows up, works hard, and leads with quiet confidence and compassion, embodying the values of service, perseverance, and integrity that Dr. King championed.
Damarion Feaster '26 was recognized for his outstanding leadership, service, and commitment to uplifting others. As president of the National Sigma Beta Club, he is dedicated to mentoring and empowering young Black men, ensuring they are seen for who they are and not defined by circumstance. Drawing from his own lived experiences, Damarion has chosen a path of purpose and impact—creating spaces of belonging and support. His leadership reflects a deep commitment to opening doors and holding them open for those who follow.
Caleb Williams '26 was honored for his leadership, advocacy and commitment to equity and community. As Co-Founder and Co-President of Harmony Across Borders and past President of Shorecrest's Black Student Union, he has created spaces for dialogue, cultural celebration, and ongoing education, including the 2026 International Festival and Black History All Year series. Beyond campus Caleb engages in research and advocacy through programs like the Youth Griot Project and has worked tirelessly to advance inclusion and understanding within his school and community. His courage, initiative, and dedication to justice reflect the values and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
