Junior Kindergarten teamed up with Erick Smith and Robin Wiltshire from the Sustainable Family Services farm to create their very own garden. A huge mound of dirt was brought in and the children got to work digging and filling garden boxes with soil. They then planted herbs and vegetables which they will tend over the next eight months. Food grown from this garden will be used by the children in cooking recipes as well as donated to families in Pinellas County. (Video below)
Mrs. Hahn's JK class is starting a project on "How Plants Grow." Students have shown interest in how the different parts of the plant work (seeds, roots, stems and flowers) as well as where they can grow. Guest experts are welcome to come share their knowledge of plants. Please let Mrs. Hahn know if you would like to participate and bring in activities or science experiments.
