The Suncoast Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and Shorecrest Preparatory School celebrated another successful Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) College Fair this past weekend. Launched in 2017 as the Tampa Bay Area's only HBCU College Fair, the 2019 festivities expanded into a three-day event series from September 12-15. The weekend included a movie screening and discussion, the Champions of Children Hearts Afire Awards Luncheon and culminated with the third annual HBCU College Fair.
Jack and Jill's annual Champions of Children Hearts Afire Luncheon is an occasion to recognize, honor and promote outstanding community leaders who too often are unrecognized for their important contributions—unsung heroes who have tirelessly and unselfishly demonstrated outstanding commitment and service to improving and enhancing the lives of children. It is with great honor that this year Roderick Avery Fludd, Shorecrest’s Director of Diversity and Inclusion was recognized for his tireless efforts and hard work in creating and sustaining a diverse, equitable and inclusive community.
“I am very honored to receive this award from Jack & Jill of America, Suncoast Chapter. My gratitude goes out to this amazing organization and I will continue to strive to live up to standards of excellence set by all recipients of this award,” said Mr. Fludd.
The HBCU College Fair Reunion Weekend was sponsored by the Suncoast Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. in partnership with the St. Petersburg (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, AKA AKAdemy, The Make it Out Foundation, members of the Divine Nine, Pruitt Marketing and Promotions, and Shorecrest Preparatory School.
