Launching our first college counseling program centering on students who wish to pursue the arts in college was quite a success. "We would also like to thank all of our presenters for thoughtfully providing students and families with such valuable information. We intend to offer this program annually. We appreciate any feedback you may have about the program." said Bonni Carney, Associate Director of College Counseling at Shorecrest.

The Art of College: Pursuing the Arts at Shorecrest and Beyond
1. Freshmen and sophomores, we encourage you to explore.
- Explore the curriculum
- Explore your talent
- Explore what you intend to do with your talent (i.e. college majors, hobbies, etc.)
2. Juniors and seniors, the application process for a student pursuing the arts is longer than most; start researching early and building your list.
3. Musical Theatre students must be admitted to the school AND the program. In order to be accepted into the program, there is typically an audition process.
- Prescreening
- On Campus Auditions
- Unifieds
4. Instrumental Music majors when visiting a college should be sure to schedule a lesson with a professor/instructor (there may be an additional cost). This relationship may be a huge, determining factor in your success and satisfaction with the school.
5. Visual Arts students should begin working on portfolios early. Schools will accept pieces from grades 9-12, as well as unfinished/current work.
