Third graders headed to Brooker Creek Preserve as a field experience for their study on how organisms in an ecosystem are interconnected. A field guide took everyone on a hike through some uplands and wetlands. The children saw native species of plants and animals such as alligators, deer, egret, blue heron and water moccasin. They also learned about invasive species such as the island apple snail and its effect on the ecosystem. At the end, there was a video about how humans can help with conservation efforts.
