The Shorecrest College Counseling Office (CCO) held a virtual event on October 15 to introduce seventh and eight grade families to the Upper School, the next step on their Shorecrest journey. This event highlighted how the CCO helps guide students in choosing their individualized paths towards the goal of getting into the college that best suits their needs, interests and expectations.
5 Key Takeaways
- Opportunities - The Shorecrest Upper School has many academic choices, special programs, leadership opportunities and clubs to choose from. The CCO helps students create the best personal and individualized path, and positions them well for college.
- CCO Team - This talented four-person team is dedicated to helping students be successful in Upper School by hosting college reps on campus, having an open door policy for students and families, guiding students through the college admissions process and so much more.
- Head Start - College Counseling doesn’t start in Upper School. It starts with resources and events for Middle School families. Eight graders are invited to sign up for a shadow visit in the ninth grade, where they will learn how a day flows in the life of an US student. The CCO provides engaging opportunities for families at all levels to get to know the US and the CCO throughout the year.
- Continuous Activity - The CCO web page and the CCO calendar contain a plethora of resources including a list of over 70 visiting college reps, ACT/SAT registration links, downloadable guides and list of sessions and events by grade level.
- We Guide, You Decide - Through resources like the CCO at Shorecrest, students have personal, individualized support for making the most out of their time at Shorecrest and trusted advisors to help them achieve their goals.
Focusing on the journey as much as the goal is what sets the Shorecrest College Counseling Office apart and what helps all Shorecrest Upper School students find the right opportunities and balance to make that journey successful.
