Shorecrest's "Cinderella" wins Broadway Star of the Future Outstanding Musical

Nominations have been reviewed, and the Shorecrest Performing Arts Department is excited to share that "Cinderella" has been named the 2019 Broadway Star of the Future Outstanding Musical! Congratulations to the Cast & Creative Team!

In addition, the following award winners and finalists have been named:

  • Outstanding Actress Top 6 Finalist (winner announced in June): Senna Prasatthong-osoth '19 (in the role of Ella)
  • Outstanding Supporting Performer in a Musical: Jordan Tralins '19 (as Madame aka the Stepmother)
  • Outstanding Direction of a Musical: Bill Leavengood '78 & Cheryl Lee
  • Outstanding Musical Direction: Michael McCarthy
  • Outstanding Choreography: Cheryl Lee 
Broadway Star of the Future Awards are Regional awards affiliated with the National High School Musical Theater Awards (NHSMTA) or the Jimmy™ Awards. The Jimmy™ Award for Best Performance by an Actress and Best Performance by an Actor is awarded annually to two grand prize winners selected from a group of student performers representing participating professional theatres nationwide.

The cast and crew of "Cinderella" are invited to perform a medley from the show at the Awards Showcase in Ferguson Hall at the Straz Center in Tampa on Sunday, June 2 at 2pm. The nominees for Outstanding Actor, Actress and Supporting Performer are also invited to participate in the Opening and Closing numbers for the Awards Showcase.

At the Broadway Star of the Future Showcase, Senna Prasatthong-osoth '19 will learn the winner of the Best Actress in a Musical, the category in which she is nominated. Winners are invited to attend the Jimmy Awards / National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York City, expenses paid. Participants experience a week of private coaching, master classes, and rehearsals with theatre professionals and they receive opportunities for merit scholarships, professional advancement, and other prizes.
