Fourth grade has begun a new unit of study - Footprint on Florida. They started with a visit to the Tampa Bay History Center. The exhibits were directly in line with deepening their understanding of our "year round" state. Students explored the impact of the citrus, cigar, and cattle industries on Florida. They also learned how Florida made an impact on the World Wars and how our ports have contributed to growing our local economy. They were able to view characters from the first amusement park, Fairyland, and compare that to what they know about current theme parks. Finally, we learned how visitors and residents can be entertained in every month of the year, making tourism our number one industry.
Students will apply what they learn throughout the unit when they create end-of-year projects.
