The Chronicle wins a Silver Crown Award

Upper School News

Shorecrest's Upper School student-run newspaper, The Chronicle, won their first Columbia University Scholastic Press Association Silver Crown Award for hybrid newspaper, the most competitive category. The award places The Chronicle among the top newspapers in the country, according to CSPA, a scholastic journalism organization. The recognition was issued to papers published during the 2024-2025 school year and reflects both the publication's print and digital works, highlighting its ability to produce consistent, high-quality journalism across platforms.

Co-Editor-in-Chief Braden Stone '26 said the award represents years of work by the staff. "I'm very proud of our staff for winning this award. We've worked towards national recognition like this for years, and now that we are winning, I see how all our learning has paid off and know that our paper will continue to grow and gain even more recognition in the years to come."

Shorecrest student-journalists have won national awards in the past through the CSPA and the National Scholastic Press Association, but this is the first national award for the paper as a whole. "It is an amazing honor," advisor and journalism teacher Kristie Dowling said. "We have worked so hard over the past few years, but it all feels worth it when we get national recognition. I want to acknowledge the hard work of the students and the unyielding support we've gotten from administration as keys to our success. A school newspaper needs both talent and an open-minded and supportive administration, and at Shorecrest we have both."
