Shorecrest School

Senior Spotlight: Max Baschinsky ’25

Upper School News

From the moment Max Baschinsky ’25 toddled onto the Shorecrest campus as a three-year-old Alpha student, it was clear Shorecrest had gained a Lifer — not just in years, but in spirit. Now a high-achieving senior and true embodiment of our Core Values, Max has spent over a decade growing into a respected scholar, leader and student voice.

Whether he’s announcing varsity athletic competitions or leading peers with quiet confidence as Vice President of the Honor Council, Max’s influence is woven into campus life. As a member of the Model United Nations club, Max does what comes naturally in other aspects of his life - he prepares, collaborates with his peers and finds solutions. His commitment to community was recognized last spring when he was awarded the Bruce Haskell Spirit Award, an honor given to one student who has exhibited the finest qualities of service, leadership and character.

Academically Max is a powerhouse, particularly excelling in the sciences. Since sophomore year he has doubled up on science courses annually and taken nearly every AP science class offered. His passion for medicine isn’t just theoretical; he was one of only two high school students selected for a paid internship at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. There, Max didn’t just show up, he researched healthcare administration, wrote a paper on his findings, and is preparing to present it at a local conference.

As a result of his academic accomplishments, Max has earned selection as a National Merit Commended Student, recognition as an AP Scholar with Distinction and induction into multiple honor societies. He has also been selected by his teachers as a peer tutor in precalculus, biology, chemistry, physics and Spanish.

Due to his strong personal character and leadership qualities, Max was nominated by faculty and elected by his peers to serve as the Vice President of the Honor Council, which is one of the three student-leadership groups on campus where students are elected or go through a rigorous selection process to serve the greater school community. Honor Council members are charged with the responsibility of adjudicating serious matters involving student violations of the Honor Code. Being elected to the Honor Council represents one of the highest accolades that a student can attain because the student body elects students who they feel best represent them and embody the Shorecrest Core Values.

Max is a true sports aficionado and serves as not only Vice President of Shorecrest’s Sports Broadcasting Club, but also the voice of Shorecrest Chargers athletics as an announcer for varsity sports contests. He says he “combines his knowledge of sports with the gift of gab.”

Teachers and peers describe him as “deeply respectful” and someone who “never fails to make others smile.” One Charger said, “Max is always there for you, he is constantly checking up on his friends and is always making sure no one feels forgotten about in any way.”

Max is the rare student who’s equally comfortable leading a meeting, breaking down a biology concept, or enthusiastically calling a touchdown play. As one faculty member put it, “Max represents the best of what Shorecrest has to offer.” He’s on to the University of Florida next year, and he’s sure to bring out the best in that community, too.

Max speaks about his high school experience in this episode of The Outlet podcast.
