The Upper School Robotics teams participated in their second competition last weekend at Berkeley Prep. 28 teams from surrounding areas competed in the VEX Robotics competition. Our two teams, 6104A - Autonomoose and 6104B - Chargers, brought the latest iterations of their robots to compete.
Since the last competition, both teams have come up with new designs for their robots to address the varying needs they had. Team Autonomoose made some modifications to their robot, including introducing a new lift to help them move scoring goals on the field. They wanted to design a robot that would be a 'Jack of All Trades.' This approach would enable them to address game objectives based on their alliance robot's strengths. In this way, the alliance would have a better chance of tackling multiple objectives in hopes of scoring the optimal number of points.
Team Chargers completely redesigned their robot from scratch based on observations from their last competition. A new mecanum wheel base enabled them to have increased mobility during the match which really helped the driver to navigate the field. Additionally, the students created a new scoring goal lift to help reduce overloading the motors as well as creating a different autonomous program.
Overall, both teams did well at the competition. Team Autonomoose placed 16th and team Chargers earned 5th place.
The next competition is on February 3rd and will be the largest of all the competitions. Teams will vie for a spot to compete at the State Championship.
