Shorecrest Chargers Varsity Track And Field hosted the District Meet for the third year in a row. Both girls and boys teams were ready to compete for titles. It was evident very quickly that the girls set out to dominate the competition. With top four athletes and relay teams advancing to the Regional meet in each event, the Chargers monopolized those positions. Sonoma Kasica '24 defended her District title for the third straight year in the Javelin, throwing just under a meter of her personal best. Kaja Dionne '24 also defended her title in the 400 meter dash, running just over a minute. By the time the field events were finalized, Shorecrest girls were leading by over 100 points! Even though the girls were already on their way to winning the title by the time the running events began, they did not hold back. After amazing performances all around the Chargers girl’s team finished the day in first place with a score of 274 points. Cambridge Christian placed 2nd with 97 points, and Tampa Prep placed third overall with 83 points.
On the boys side, Shorecrest was in a battle with Cambridge Christian. Ahmad Crumity '25 started the day for the boys with a great performance in the long jump - defending his title. Jumping a personal best and new school record of 6.92m, the boys were looking good early. The day came down to the final few events. Shorecrest boys ended as District runner up after some late unexpected scratches and injuries. Cambridge finished the day with 191 points, the Chargers earned 175 points, and Carrollwood day had 117 points for third. Overall, both teams performed well and represented Shorecrest proudly!
