Senior Spotlight: Ahmad Crumity ‘25
When Ahmad Crumity ‘25 arrived at Shorecrest in ninth grade, the academic leap was steep, and so was his determination. Where some might have slowed down, Ahmad leaned in and pushed himself to rise to the challenge. That drive combined with his winning smile have defined his Shorecrest journey ever since.
Ahmad will graduate with the distinction of Shorecrest’s STEAM Certificate with an emphasis on Computer Science, a rigorous pathway that culminates in a self-directed capstone project. His project, EqualScreen, reflects both his passion for tech and his compassion for others. Focused on improving accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing moviegoers, Ahmad’s concept uses data to help theaters increase the availability of open-captioned showings, benefiting both marginalized communities and the businesses that serve them. It’s thoughtful, innovative, and entirely Ahmad.
“It was a pleasure working with Ahmad this year in the Seminar in STEAM class,” shared Dr. Anna Baralt, Director of the program. “His positive attitude, willingness to take risks and openness to feedback truly stood out. I’m especially impressed by all he accomplished, including learning a new coding language, C++, and using this new language to create his final capstone project.”
Beyond the classroom, he’s a force of nature. A standout Triple Crown (three-sport) varsity athlete, Ahmad holds school records in the long jump and triple jump, earned the triple jump State Championship title in 2023 and 2025, played a key role in three consecutive football State Titles and is a Chargers basketball point guard. His athletic talent is undeniable—but what stands out most is his leadership. He was named Most Improved Defensive Back, Most Outstanding Wide Receiver, and was selected by Shorecrest faculty as the recipient of the Carleen Vinal Haskell Scholarship & Spirit Award, an honor given to a student who exemplifies excellence both academically and athletically. That balance of scholarship and spirit? It defines him. He’s not just a player—he’s a teammate who shows up for others, on and off the field.
Another way he exemplifies Shorecrest Core Values is in his Responsibility, both to his community and to his family. As the oldest sibling and the first in his family to attend college, Ahmad leads with quiet strength and compassion. He is truly a role model to his siblings and a constant source of support for his family.
As a member of Shorecrest’s Black Student Union, Ahmad has been a powerful voice for equity and inclusion. He’s spoken to the entire student body on the impact of racial slurs and is often the one who bridges divides, offering empathy and grace where others might offer judgment. His peers respect him deeply—not just for his achievements, but for how he makes them feel.
“My smile has a ninety percent success rate,” Ahmad confides.
Ahmad had the unique opportunity to intern with SCG Fields when Haskell Field was upgraded. He reviewed and oversaw blueprints for the new Centennial Stadium project, assisted in laying irrigation and supervised contractors delivering materials. Earl Walton, Faculty Advisor to the internship program, made the connection that Ahmad “spent a lot of hours in the heat building the field that he would spend his senior year competing on.”
Ahmad's journey as a Charger from navigating a new academic world to a respected scholar-athlete-leader is nothing short of inspiring. He leaves Shorecrest as a record-breaker, a changemaker and a role model. And while we’ll miss his energy, warmth, and wisdom, we know he’s headed to Florida State University ready to make an impact all over again.
