Sophia Dyer '26 Commits to the University of Florida
Sophia Dyer ‘26 is taking her golf career to the next level — continuing a proud family tradition by committing to play for the University of Florida, where both her father and brother once competed.
Dyer’s connection to the sport runs deep. She said her love of golf began at just four years old, when she was more interested in running through the bunkers and feeding the ducks than perfecting her swing. But before long, she picked up a club of her own.
“Being committed to the University of Florida is such an honor and is something I will be proud of for the rest of my life,” said Dyer. “I’m really looking forward to being surrounded by some of the best athletes in the world and people who share the same goals as me.”
She’ll graduate early from Shorecrest this winter and head to Gainesville in January to join the Gators. While she plans to redshirt for the spring semester, Dyer is eager to get started. “I can’t wait to practice with my teammates and coaches and just get better,” she said.
Ranked among the top 10 recruits in the Class of 2026, Dyer has built an impressive resume that reflects her steady rise in junior golf. She captured the 2024 Florida Women’s Amateur title and followed it with top-five finishes at both the 2025 Florida Women’s Amateur and the Florida Women’s Stroke Play Championship. On the national stage, she earned top-10 and top-15 finishes at the 2024 and 2025 Dustin Johnson World Juniors, respectively, and notched two top-three AJGA Open results within the past year. Dyer also advanced to the round of 64 at the 2024 U.S. Girls’ Junior and placed in the top 10 at both the Dye Junior and Kathy Whitworth Invitationals. Dyer also has a top-20 finish under her belt from the prestigious R&A Girls Amateur.
Most recently, Dyer and her Shorecrest teammates brought home the Regional Championship title — one more highlight in a standout high school career that’s just the beginning of what’s sure to be an exciting journey ahead.
Because of Sophia's special circumstances, Shorecrest will host a special individual signing day on Monday, November 10 at 11am in the Janet Root Theatre to celebrate her athletic accomplishments before her early graduation.
