CrestMUN represents Shorecrest at MIT MUN Conference

Upper School News

Model United Nations (MUN) is a scholarly competition where students serve as mock delegates for different countries and/or conventions mirroring the conversations around real United Nations issues. The committees or general assemblies then try to resolve these issues by creating alliances, writing resolutions, and voting on these after hours of debates and discussions.

Sixteen Shorecrest Upper School scholar-delegates attended a 3-day MUN conference hosted on the MIT campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The niche conference focused on technological issues affecting the world, such as the development of AI, and how to bridge the gap of inequity in terms of access to technology between the first world and developing nations. The Chargers spirit was on display as the delegates performed with great poise and were able to present resolutions that were passed by their respective committees.

Participants in MUN develop critical life and professional skills, focused on diplomacy, negotiation, research and public speaking.
