Coming Up: Celebrate the Arts Week

Art instruction is interwoven throughout the Shorecrest curriculum. To celebrate the lessons and skills taught all year, we open the campus to the community for a week each spring during Celebrate the Arts. Artists from the Tampa Bay Area, such as singers, actors, writers, dancers and visual artists, will visit Shorecrest classrooms to share their stories about becoming an artist and to engage children in creative learning activities relating to their craft. The Teach-Ins will take place on April 18 in Middle School and April 20 for Experiential and Lower Schools.
The artists arrive around 8:15am, set-up, gather for a warm welcome with parents and other adults, and then work with the students for about an hour and a half (one class from 9:00 - 9:45am and a second class from 9:50 - 10:35am.) We are looking for volunteers from our Shorecrest community to be part of this special event. You can greet the artists, bring them to the room they will be working in, and support them in the classroom. It makes a difference for the artist who may not be familiar with our campus or working with young children. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Gina White, [email protected] or Jennifer Manfrey, [email protected]. You’ll have a great time!

Following the morning “teach-in” on the 20th LS and ES will do a show in which each grade level performs a song. It is very informal. It will being around 11:00am. Following this share, children and families gather for a picnic lunch.
During the week, students will view art in our community, display their art for faculty judges, and be entertained by other visitors. Middle School rock bands will also perform for LS and MS.
The week is capped off by the Upper School’s spring musical. This year they are performing “A Chorus Line.” Learn more about the show and get ticket info here.
