Shorecrest: A Top US Sailing School!
Shorecrest's Sailing Team has posted another strong finish at a national championship! The High School National Team Race Championship was held last weekend in Houston, Texas, with 12 teams from around the country qualifying from their region to attend. The teams sailed a highly competitive and hard-fought series throughout, with the final standings not determined until the last race on Sunday. Chargers Ty Baird '14/Kyle D., Nic Baird '15/Kathryn Booker '15, and Patrick S./Hannah S. finished an impressive 4th overall.
Team racing is sailed in a match-type format with two teams competing at a time. A team consists of three boats which race another team’s three boats. Each time one team defeats another, they score one point. The team with the most points at the end of the event wins. Team Racing is one of three disciplines of high school sailing, along with Singlehanded and Doublehanded Fleet racing. Each has a national championship regatta.
This event capped an impressive season for Shorecrest Sailing! With top-five finishes in all three of the high school national championships, Shorecrest has emerged as one of America’s top sailing schools. Each and every team member contributed to the overall success of the team. With Ty Baird '14 being the only graduating senior, Shorecrest will return almost the entire team and looks forward to continuing to improve their skills next year.
