Dr. Jeffrey-Fort Visits the Center for Medical Sciences

On Monday October 23, Pre-Med Club members, as well as students in Mrs. Peck’s Anatomy and Intro to Medical Sciences classes, had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Jeffrey-Fort in the Center for Medical Sciences.
Dr. Jeffrey-Fort, currently the owner of The Family Dental Boutique and a Shorecrest parent, received her bachelor’s degree at Howard University, attended the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery Dental School at the University of Maryland, and completed her residency at Harlem Hospital Center in New York.
Dr. Jeffrey-Fort spoke about why she became a dentist and the importance of social skills in her work, and she answered questions about root canals, cavities, gum disease, and the effect of diet on the health of teeth. Additionally, Dr. Jeffrey-Fort presented some astonishing statistics: only about 50% of the American public goes to the dentist each year and even less have dental insurance. Several students remarked that they weren’t aware of just how important oral hygiene is in relation to whole body health.
The Pre-Med Club members and Mrs. Peck’s students thank Dr. Jeffrey-Fort for taking the time to talk to them about the importance of dentistry.
